ABADDON · DESTRUCTION

The Mouth of the Pit

I do not end things. I open them.

THE QUESTION THIS OPERATOR CARRIES

Is destruction the opposite of creation — or its final chapter?

Named in the old tongues as the angel of the bottomless pit, Abaddon is both the place and the keeper of the place. The archive insists the pit is not a prison but a throat: everything swallowed by it is, eventually, spoken.

THREE CHAPTERS, TWO READINGS

THE ORTHODOX READING IS WHAT THE WINNING SIDE WROTE. THE ASHEN READING IS WHAT THE FIRE PRESERVED.

CHAPTER I

THE KEY

ORTHODOX READING

He holds the key to the abyss and opens it only when commanded.

ASHEN READING

Every builder locks a door and calls the room behind it finished. Abaddon keeps the key because nothing is ever finished.

CHAPTER II

THE LOCUSTS

ORTHODOX READING

From the pit came a swarm to torment those without the seal.

ASHEN READING

The swarm does not choose whom to strip. It removes what was never load-bearing. Call it cruelty; the archive calls it an audit.

CHAPTER III

THE NAME

ORTHODOX READING

In the old tongue his name means destruction, and destruction is all he is.

ASHEN READING

A name is a job description written by the winning side. In this archive his name is filed under consequence.
